Matthew Ray Ramsey at the Pantheon Theatre

Photographer Matthew Ray Ramsey joins me for Season 1 Episode 5 of Words With Artists as we learn about the restored Pantheon Theatre in Vincennes, Indiana. Matt and I talk about our beginnings in photography, learn about both his fine art and commercial ventures, and about his involvement in local Knox County arts.

Dusty’s Bowman Minute at the Pantheon Theatre

One minute freewriting exercise with key words: theatre, disrepair, photos.

The theatre breathed a sigh as he came to see it. Love in his eyes, history and home. Photos of it in the heydays were a dream to begin anew, building, growing, making.

Introducing Your Host

This week I turn the tables on myself and let you learn about how I became a professional artist, and how Words With Artists came to be produced after I attended the On-Ramp Artist Entrepreneur Accelerator course sponsored by the Indiana Arts Commission, Minerva Financial Arts, and the Small Business Administration. That course resulted in my applying for and receiving a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission, and Minerva Financial Arts , providing the initial funding for my podcast.

So join me for this shorter episode and learn a bit about my life and my view on art in the world around us. And, until next Monday, I’ll be entertaining the ghosts of our past, sipping tea, and sharing words with artists.

Rosanne Quatroke at the Quatroke Art Farm

Painter Rosanne Quatroke joins me for Season 1 Episode 2 of Words With Artists as we learn about the Quatroke Art Farm in Salem, Indiana. We recorded sans my sound man, Austin Adamson, but Rosanne and I covered some great ground, learned about Art Gives Back, and about Rosanne’s amazing contributions to her community by being an artist.

Dusty’s Bowman Minute at the Quatroke Art Farm

One minute freewriting exercise with key words: landscape, vacation, and railroad.

The landscape was grown over with love from the vacation we took. Elgin in the rearview, for trains and railroads in our backyard. Love of the house brought it to life as we built our family home.

Judy Quinlin at Beck’s Grist Mill

Painter Judy Quinlin joins me for Season 1 Episode 1 of Words With Artists as we learn about Beck’s Grist Mill National Historic Site in Salem, Indiana. Lots of laughs with Judy, but please forgive the sound of the beautiful waterfall in the background! Also, don’t forget to check out the uncut video on my YouTube channel @dustylynnbaker

Dusty’s Bowman Minute at Beck’s Mill

One minute freewriting exercise with key words: wool, daffodils, and Indiana.

The daffodils form a history of this place. A soft coloring now spread by nature and the love of time and growth. In the mill, the wool is taken to new creations.

Welcome!

Hello all! Join me every week as I entertain the ghosts of our pasts while sipping a bit of tea and having words with artists! As each episode is recorded in a historically relevant location to the artist being interviewed, we’ll delve into how the art found the artist, their learning process as well as biggest mistakes, and their current projects. Add in our Bowman Minute, and we’ll be writing creative fiction in a fast, flashy, freestyle method that we’ll share with you, our listener. (We’d love for you to share your Bowman minute at our website!) Plus, look out for live recordings in your area, and uncut interview videos on our YouTube channel.

Based on a Podcast, Words With Artists began as a fellowship project with the Indiana Arts Commission after I attended the On-Ramp Creative Entrepreneur Accelerator in 2021. After some unexpected delays, this baby is finally coming to life and I can’t be more excited! Look here for Podcast, YouTube, and website links taking you to some of Indiana’s most beautiful historic places while meeting an amazing variety of artists from painters, to woodworkers, to chefs, and so much more!

Special thanks go out to Minerva Financial Arts and the Indiana Arts Commission for helping to make this a dream come true!
